Dan Bowman
What was your original motivation to start Kyudo?
Archery has always been a part of my life. I knew of Kyudo, but never had the opportunity to see, let alone receive instruction in it. When I saw an into Kyudo class was being offered through Emory adult ed, I thought I might pick up a couple things that may help me with western-style shooting. Kyudo and western archery are apples and oranges, so it didn't help much; but I was hooked and wanted to see where the "Way of the bow" lead.
What do you now enjoy most about Kyudo?
I no longer have any
expectations for it and can now enjoy it for what it is rather than
thinking it might hold some hidden truth or skill.
Jacob's Ladder (really
messed up movie, but I have my reasons).
The Jungle by Upton
Sinclair (only the first half or so).
How
would you describe yourself in 5 words or less?
Uncomplicated in my
desires.
Some Judo in college
but I was too tall and sucked at it.
Grow veggies, trying
to learn to play a fiddle that has been in my family for 120 years.
Some of my ancestors actually. I would like to know who they were as individuals and why/how they did some of the things they did.
